Negrito Mask Guatemala 6.5 inches, painted wood The are several Negritos in the famous Baile de los Mexicanos, as well as many other characters, including the long-nosed cowboys. They almost always have big grins on their faces. The Negrito is in several dances and is based on the African slaves imported to work on the plantations in the early years. As in Mexico, they proved to be excellent farmers and were generally admired by the indigenous people. Some became bosses and landowners. Though of some age, this mask is in beautiful condition, having been repainted and given new, very realistic eyes. sold |
