“My parents bought this mask when we were in Chichicastenango, Guatemala, probably in 1973, when I was 6 or 7. I think we have shots of the mask-maker and his workshop. Afterwards, a friend of us took us into the hills behind his house to a site of a recent ritual, with chicken feathers scattered around an alter and candles. As you can see, there is a name and location written on the back by the artist. It’s about 8.5 inches top to chin, and 6 inches ear to ear. It has glass eyes made of concave pieces of painted glass, roughly clipped around the edges and attached with a brown, now hard and brittle, resin. The name reads Miguel something, perhaps Jguver…I’m sure I’m not deciphering the cursive correctly. It’s on such a rough surface”<\/em><\/p>\n
