Scary animal mask from rural Indonesia

Q: Could you tell me about the value and origin of this mask?  Susan, 539

A: I decided to show the rear view and side view because you can clearly see how these animal masks are constructed. The wearer holds it to his face while opening and closing the mouth and trying to scare people. These characters are meant to protect the village from evil spirits. I think these are used in rural Bali and Java. It is hard to tell if this one was used.  B
